Cardboard, plastic applicator and non-applicator tampons serve different customer preferences and product strategies. The best format depends on the target market, user expectations, packaging goals, documentation and actual supplier capability.
Our current production does not include cardboard applicators. We can evaluate plastic applicator and non-applicator products for private-label projects. The cardboard information below is provided for objective buyer comparison.
Format Comparison
| Format | Potential advantage | Buyer consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Cardboard applicator | Reduced-plastic product direction | Supplier availability, surface performance and evidence for environmental claims |
| Plastic applicator | Familiar applicator experience and multiple design options | Material, design, disposal messaging and market preference |
| Non-applicator | Compact format without an applicator component | User instructions, market familiarity, dimensions and wrapper |
Questions to Ask Before Selecting a Format
- Which formats are currently manufactured on the supplier’s production line?
- What absorbency levels and materials are available for each format?
- What is the MOQ per specification and packaging version?
- Which samples and test reports can be provided?
- Which environmental or organic claims are supported?
- What wrapper, box and carton customization is possible?
Do Not Base the Decision on One Material Claim
The applicator is only one component. Review the absorbent core, cover layer, withdrawal string, wrapper, retail box and shipping pack. Terms such as recyclable, biodegradable, compostable, organic or plastic-free should be tied to specific materials, test methods and destination-market rules.
Choosing an Available OEM Alternative
A plastic applicator may be suitable when the customer expects an applicator format. A non-applicator tampon may suit compact packs and markets where this format is familiar. Organic cotton can be evaluated as a separate material decision for suitable product configurations.
